Flash Lite 3 for Mobile Phones

Adobe Sytems Incorporated has recently announced that they will be releasing Flash Lite 3 for mobile phones. Flash Lite 3 will support video capabilities and all it to be played through mobile phones thus advancing the mobile video market the same way Flash advanced the online video market. Now if we could just get the U.S. carriers to get on board the way the overseas carriers have.

WPP Purchase of 24/7 Real Media

WPP's acquisition of 24/7 Real Media is happens in parallel with other SEM acquisitions but it is really a sign of the future. And, it's a good idea.

Search Engine Marketing has surprised everyone with its broad reception by consumers and impact on traditional media budgets. Whether you're scared of click fraud or not, the numbers on SEM (cost and demographic) compete strongly with some aspects of traditional media. As a result large ad businesses like Publicis, Omnicom and WPP have long taken note of this space. With Google further strengthening their position in the ad-serving business by acquiring Double Click, WPP announced last week that they will by 24/7 Real Media for a premium but bargain price of $649 million.

Analyze Your Site's Performance

Check out Google's new release of their analytics service. We currently use Google Analytics for large sites that have clearly defined user paths and goals but I am planning on us using this new release on most if not all of our sites including Flash sites and offering a service on top of it. Below is a screen shot of the new UI. You can customize your views in a similar fashion to Google homepage and you can set automated reports. Pretty cool. If you're a client...expect to see more. Click to see Screen Shot.

Weblin's Little Avatars are Kind of Cool

I've written and spoken about a 3d virtualized web and how I think a 3d virtualized web is inevitable, will be breakthrough at first and will quickly become the norm. The flat catalog pages of the web will be analogous to black and white tv's and rotary phones connected to the wall via a cord. Virtual worlds are a big step in this direction but the final springboard will be an open source 3d language which can be hosted anywhere, read by major browsers in their release forms and is easy develop in. Here is another small step in that direction – an attempt to virtualize your visit to a website outside of the control of the site itself that has strategic similarities to Grease Monkey with the major difference being that you don't see the notes or edits of a peer user on the website you're visiting, you see the other peer users on that site at the time. Think of the realtime stat display combine with avatars and you'll start getting it – or just click here.

The major downside is that you only see people who are Weblin users but, of course, that is the case with all peer systems at first. What I like about this is the thinking behind it – virtualizing the web environment so people bump into each other in common places.

Dell Listens to Crowd's Linux Feedback on IdeaStorm

The top story on Dell's IdeaStorm has been about Linux since the site launched. After talking with customers through the corp blog Direct2Dell and on IdeaStorm, Dell announced yesterday that they will start shipping more computers with a Linux option.

This is pretty incredible and it speaks well to Dell's ability to listen to customers and adjust accordingly. Change is rarely easy, particularly when you are a large company.

As the historical thriller The Interpretation of Murder is released internationally we are launching native language versions of the site. The first is in Italian – pretty cool.

New Nike Site

We launched our first project for Nike this week. It's a pretty cool little site to announce and provide images of Nike's new 'System of Dress' for college basketball. The launch coincides with four teams who are wearing the new uniforms during their March Madness games. The story of the new uniforms and images from the site have already been published Yahoo News, CNN and Sports Illustrated. It has also been cool to watch how the number of results in Google has grown over three days from zero to 11,000+.
